Role Overview
This role prepares you for future work in data project supervision and operations management. You will start by completing data tasks yourself, learning collection procedures and quality standards before supporting team coordination, progress tracking and delivery. Management responsibilities are introduced as you demonstrate the necessary skills and receive formal authorisation.
You will help organise and coordinate interns, crowdsourced contributors and third-party project personnel, paying attention both to how tasks are completed and whether the data meets the requirements.
Eligibility
The role is primarily for fresh graduates from universities, colleges, polytechnics and vocational institutions, and early-career applicants who graduated no more than two years before the application date. Final-year students may apply if they can meet an agreed start date. All fields of study are welcome. A bachelor's degree, prior model development experience and formal management experience are not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Clarify task requirements. Learn about data tasks for large multimodal models, autonomous driving and embodied AI. Understand the intended use, collection procedures and acceptance criteria, and turn confirmed requirements into operating steps, sample tasks and checklists.
- Support collection and quality assurance. Learn to use equipment and tools, understand data permissions and confidentiality, and complete sample collection, data preparation and checks. Identify issues and follow through on corrections.
- Coordinate project teams. Help organise teams, allocate tasks, explain standards and guide new participants. Track people, equipment, progress and resource needs so that everyone works to the same project requirements.
- Track and improve delivery. Record quality issues, rework and delivery status. Coordinate information with project, HR and finance colleagues, and use project reviews to improve subsequent work.
Qualifications and Skills
- A sustained interest in AI and emerging technology, with a willingness to research, verify information and explain your understanding clearly.
- Practical experience using AI tools for learning or work, and the ability to explain how you used them and checked the results. Ability to record tasks, issues and data in spreadsheets or collaboration tools.
- Clear communication, active listening and the ability to confirm requirements, coordinate responsibilities, work through disagreements and provide timely updates. Willingness to accept feedback and follow problems through to resolution.
- Attention to detail, follow-through and a basic understanding of data, with respect for task instructions, quality requirements and confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate in Bahasa Malaysia and/or English as required by the project team. Chinese and other relevant languages are an advantage. Availability for work locations, on-site practice and training arrangements specified in advance.
Organising experience in student societies, volunteering, competitions, internships or group projects is an advantage, as is practical experience in data collection, annotation, quality assurance, equipment operation, project coordination or automation. We are interested in how you divided the work, solved problems and took responsibility.
Using AI in Practice
- Use AI to help organise operating instructions, task lists and handover notes, checking them against project requirements to reduce omissions and misunderstandings.
- Summarise progress and quality records, explore causes of rework and test suggested improvements on sample tasks before changing a working method.
Use approved tools only with data you are authorised to process. Protect project information, observe the work directly and exercise your own judgement.
Learning and Development
Day-to-day development centres on practical projects, including data quality, task organisation, team guidance and delivery coordination. Progression towards data project supervision, project management and operations management will depend on individual development and business needs.
Merantara plans to offer selected high-performing candidates with development potential on-site training at leading companies. Initial plans include approximately two to four weeks of focused learning in mainland China. Participants would gain exposure to a wider range of business settings and project work, developing skills in requirements analysis, team organisation, quality assurance and delivery as part of preparation for future project manager roles.
This selective programme is separate from general onboarding. Participants, host companies, timing, course content and responsibility for costs will be confirmed separately according to project and partner arrangements. Participation does not guarantee employment, promotion or appointment to a management position.
Application Details
Include your institution, field of study, graduation or expected graduation date, and relevant experience from student activities, projects, internships or work. You may also share an example of organising people, resolving a problem or improving a process. This is optional; no specially prepared work sample is required.
